This post starts off with an apology: I believe that this cereal is discontinued for the moment so unless your grocery store has a box on the clearance rack – you may not be able to experience this interesting cereal.
First let me tell you my son’s experience with this, then I’ll tell you what I think about it.
School mornings have a lot of moving parts. A hot breakfast was not happening one morning so cereal was on the menu! This cereal – Post Chicken and Waffles Honey Bunches Of Oats.
My son, Legendary Khalifah, got a small bowl, the box of cereal, and unsweetened vanilla almond milk. He complains about the unsweetened variety that I often buy but why consume extra sugar if you don’t need to!
Anyway, this cereal has parts to it: there appear to be two types of corn flakes, oat clusters, waffle shaped cereal and drumstick shaped cereal.
It’s also important to note that the ingredients include savory spices- such as black pepper, marjoram, etc:
As mentioned, during school mornings there is a lot I’m doing to get my Honey Bunny ready for school (don’t tell him I called him a Honey Bunny online or he may be embarrassed hehehe LOL).
So, I wasn’t watching him as he started eating but I did hear him tell me: “This is delicious! Mom, buy this again!”
I’m like – wow, it’s good like that?! He says yeah. And then he says “Yuck! I don’t like the chicken!”
The ingredients list no animal anything. He’s talking about the drumstick shaped pieces.
He ends up eating everything but the drumsticks. He asks if I want it but no, someone’s leftover soggy cereal has never been appetizing to me. So I pass.
My own experience with this quirky Honey Bunches of Oats cereal was different than his.
I was excited to see this for the following reasons:
- It is vegan.
- It is on sale.
- I often miss out on fun foods because it has animal products in it. This is not like that so I can try it.
I tried Chicken and Waffles cereal and I liked it!
I was excited to see the savory spices in the ingredients. It let me know that this cereal brand was going bold into the theme.
It turns out, my son’s least favorite part ended up being my favorite part.
I really have a thing for sweet and salty flavors. That flavor profile is brought him strongly in this cereal. There is also a syrupy flavor that makes it taste even more comforting.
There is a lot going on in terms of cereal pieces but I’m okay with that. it really does add variety. The actual honey bunches of oats may be the least prominent feature.
Would I buy this again? If it were available, maybe I would. But considering the fact that I really buy cereal for my son, maybe I wouldn’t unless it was down for it.
In conclusion, this stuff is good and flavorful. Seems like a win to me 🙂
