The Best Non-Dairy Ice Cream

I love ice cream. Hands down, it’s my favorite dessert (followed by pie!). The only reason I don’t eat it every day is because it is generally unhealthy.

All of the Non-Dairy options that have become available in recent years bring joy to a lover like me!

Of course, I still check ingredients and sugar content but the fact that vegan options are vegan automatically bring joy to my heart.

But this post is not about me, it’s about the ice cream brands that I recently tried: So Delicious, Halo Top and Häagen-Dazs.

They are all delicious so they are not ranked from best to worse, per sé…. Although I did save the best for last.

So Delicious – Dark Chocolate Truffle with Cashewmilk

Chocolate! This one was good; nice flavor and it had pieces of chocolate flakes in it. I went back for seconds!

But it was hard and it took a while to be scoop-able.

I would not describe this as being “creamy.”

Would I buy it again? No. Not because of the flavor but because there are just too many flavors that I haven’t tried yet. However, if someone told me to specifically pick up some chocolate ice cream then yes, I would get this one.

Halo Top – Caramel Macchiato

I anticipated this having a coffee flavor. It did not taste like coffee. But, it is still alright.

For some reason, I didn’t finish my serving of this. I did like it, it was sweet and more creamy than the chocolate ice cream.

Halo Top has the reputation of being healthy and low calorie. Halo Top enthusiasts know what they’re getting into.

But, Non-Dairy newbies who want something as close to dairy ice cream as possible? Reach for the Häagen-Dazs.

Häagen-Dazs – Coconut Caramel

I have found the love of my non-dairy life. This one is so sweet and so creamy.

This flavor is also so coconutty that my son Legendary Khalifah didn’t like it. I was secretly happy about that because it meant more for me!

This was the smallest container..

This one, I’d day, is the least healthy.

The decadent taste is worth it. I’d really like to try other flavors of this. It’s about $4 for one container and it’s not easy to share with a house full of people.

Side note, I looked in Food Lion for the dairy free Breyer’s and I didn’t see that either, which made me sad because they make family size containers.

Anyway, Häagen-Dazs reigns supreme on flavor but it also has the most sugar and fat. Which takes me back to what I said in the beginning – the best ice cream is just too unhealthy to eat every day.

But the second bests- Halo Top and So Delicious are lite enough that they don’t make you feel very guilty to indulge.

Brand New Italian Inspired Foodstuffs

Some interesting food items can be found on the sale rack! It’s not always for discontinued items, but sometimes for new/introductory foods as well. Case in point:

The FiorFiore brand is new to Food Lion and so they had super low prices to encourage people to try it. Worked for me!

Here’s a quick rundown of some of the products in this line!

The Breadsticks

Crunchy and bread flavored.

The Crispbread

Good. Crunchy. Filling. No olive flavor.

The Croutons

Bigger than expected. The olive oil used in these gives some great flavor. Great with the pepper spread.

Pepper Spread

Tasty af! Tomatoes is the number one ingredient and it shows.

Spray Balsamic Vinegar

What a great idea. Perfect flavor; sweet and tangy.

Shortbread Cookies

Good shortbread based cookie. Generously coated with chocolate.

Almond Cookies

Eating these moist cookies is an experience. They’re really almondy… not just in flavor but in texture too. They’re also individually wrapped, which is a huge bonus.

Out of all of these things, I’m most likely to re-purchase the Spray-on Balsamic Vinegar.

Here’s a video review I made after trying all of these things!

Trying Graze Snacks

My son and I had the pleasure to try these snacks!

Snacks are always a good idea to have near. That’s extra true when you really try to eat healthy.

I first heard about Graze snacks as a subscription box service a couple of years ago (I think!).

However, I don’t have a subscription. I saw some of these snacks on sale at CVS Pharmacy. I bought one sweet flavor and one savory.

Today, my son, Legend, and I tried them!

First, we had the sweet:

These oat squares had the texture of a chewy granola bar. The cacao flavor really came through strongly! As well as the cranberry and vanilla.

I loved it! Legend didn’t enjoy it as much. I think that he likes his treats sweeter. Because these were not very sweet, which is one thing I really loved about it.

I think we saved the best for last – a crunchy snack mix:

Legend and I both wanted more of these! It was so good, pleasantly crunchy and crisp. Although, not very spicy, I would have enjoyed a little more peppery kick. However, the makers know what they’re doing, flavor-wise. I could eat a 2 pound bag of this mix! 🙂

Over all, yes these are good and highly recommended.

Check out this video of us trying them ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Coconut Chips – (chocolate?!)

Coconut isn’t so bad..

For years, my abhorrence of coconut was narrowed down to my intense dislike of the “dry crunch” experience that Coconut brought to my mouth.

Now I must admit, writing that opener was tough, given the fact that I actually like coconut now.

All of it; I like all coconut.

Even the shredded coconut that they add sugar to in the baking aisle.

Coconut flour is a little weird though.. and I’d just rather not use it. I mean, it’s like a sponge. It will ruin the texture of things. Lots of things.

Sorry to put negative energy out on coconut like this! So we’ll switch it up:

These are a delicious snack. They’re sweet and crunchy and filling, especially if you eat the entire bag (2 servings per bag).

Wash em down with this:

This coconut water is really good but I was so disappointed to find out that there is sugar added 😦 bummer.

Okay, and then what about this chocolate flavor:

Chocolate coconut chips
chocolate is proving itself to be one of those things that go with everything 🙂

These chocolate coconut chips are so fabulous! Crunchy and chocolate-y.

I was definitely skeptical but, looking back, what was I worried about 🙂

I recommend coconut snacks because : They’re natural, high in fiber and flavorful! They’re also affordable – all of the snacks featured in this post can be found at the Dollar Tree.

Why Chocolatey Oatmeal

I had some chocolate oatmeal. Dark Chocolate Almond Coconut oatmeal, to be exact.

To answer the title, it’s for people who enjoy it. It also exists for people who feel guilty eating desserts so they combine it with oatmeal to make it ~healthy.

The list of things I enjoy in this oatmeal happen to be listed in order of what I like the most to the least.

Chocolate➡️almond➡️coconut

Chocolate makes me want to take chances on new foods. After all, it’s chocolate; how bad can it get?

On the box, it looks like Chocolatey heaven and so enjoyable.

The excitement that I felt wavered when I opened one of the single packs.

Why is it so tan and oatmeal colored? Where’s the deep brown chocolate evidence I was expecting?

It made up for that SLIGHTLY because of the addition of miniature chocolate chips. But honestly, it was not enough! They should have doubled the chocolate chips.

I made mine with water first. I tasted it. It was like LITE chocolate. I was frustrated; if it says Dark Chocolate on the box, I’m expecting a deep chocolate flavor.

So, I was feeling some kind of way about it.

There was absolutely no way I was eating in that state so… I added a teaspoon or so of unsweetened cocoa powder. The color immediately deepened and I began to feel more comfortable with my food choice. But it wasn’t enough.

A sprinkle of pink salt made it better.

Notice, there’s not a mention to the almond and/or coconut.

My response to that (read in Deebo’s voice, if you will):

What almond/coconut?

Okay, texturally, there are some almond flakes but no flavor.

Almost the same with the coconut, just even less flavor. Go figure. [Although now I’m wondering if the addition of coconut oil would make better work? Mmm flavor.]

There remains a box of instant chocolate oatmeal packets. No one else is interested, apparently. Although I may be able to encourage a chocolate loving 7-year-old to go for it.

Me? Maybe I should’ve gone for the birthday flavor.
